maternity wear

Maternity clothes are awesome. I finished one of my new skirts and wore it to work yesterday - soooo comfortable! I want 12 inches of spandex in the tops of all of my pants and skirts now. I'm sure I'll be sick of it soon enough but right now it is really nice to not have a waistband.

I had my first bout with some major nausea last night. I am firmly blaming the nachos and not the gremlin as I feel fine and perky this morning.

Only 8 days until our first appointment!

Ingrid gave me the great idea of buying a big flat art file (something like 11x14x2 or so) to keep the gremlin's baby stuff in rather than beating myself up over not doing a baby book. It totally makes sense - I'm going to keep all that stuff (hospital bracelet, ultrasound pics, first haircut, pictures out the wazoo) anyway and it'll be so much easier to chuck it into a cool art box than pasting it into a baby book that I'll do for 3 weeks and then be too tired and not care any more.

Not much else to report, hungry and thirsty pretty constantly but the heartburn seems to have taken a brief vacation. Wahoo! The bloat is still in full force though.

edited to add - that's definitely photos OUT the wazoo, not OF the wazoo. yikes.

sewing

I've finally gotten to start on my sewing projects, so far I've made about 3/4 of a skirt. I'm still waiting for the stretchy bits for the top and the lining to arrive and then I'll be all set. I think I'm going to make one or two more today, just for kicks.

Still no nausea or vomiting, just the hormone soup and some massive bloat. And heartburn...I had to go buy an economy size jar of Tums yesterday. They're like chalky bits of heaven.

six weeks

This is something like what the gremlin looks like now:

It has nostrils and pancreas, and its intestines have started to form. Oddly enough, they are built outside the body in the umbilical area and then shoved in through the kid's belly button later on. Seems inefficient and difficult, but hey, I'm just incubating here.

Still feel pretty good; I'm starting to feel the effects of the hormone soup though. I almost cried at the store this morning because they didn't have anything I could eat for breakfast.

But I could also be upset because it is STILL snowing here.

5 weeks, 4 days

I thought I'd post some reaction photos from when the (ahem...fifth) test came back positive...granted, it wasn't all that shocking since I had taken four positive tests already, but I think it was still a bit of a jolt to see the 'pregnant' come up in the window. It's just a bit more effective than the two lines that the other tests gave us.

Nate's reactions were a bit more entertaining than mine -

5 weeks, 2 days

When we were in Loveland last weekend we just had to pick out a toy for our gremlin (thanks for the nickname Dad - I love it) at this great store called Mama Style.

Seriously, who could resist a weiner dog on a string?

5 weeks, 1 day

Right now the gremlin looks like this:

and is ridiculously tiny. It's heart is working at this point and is pumping blood with all 4 chambers (running on all 4 cylinders?). Its brain is starting to develop as are its lungs; it's also budding arms and legs. Looks to me like it has a tail as well, but I'll bet that goes away.

I still feel great, I was annoyed yesterday as I had a headache and couldn't take anything for it, but that's just part of the baby-building deal. Other than that I've just been hungry all the time and peeing a lot.

4 weeks, 6 days

I have added a name poll to the left hand area of the blog. So if you look slightly to your left, you will see it. Please vote! I don't know if any of these names will even make it to the final round, but they are the ones I like right now. I haven't had a chance to talk to Nate about them yet, so there may be some additions, subtractions, and/or divisions.

I got my first bit of nausea last night - very fleeting and not very bad at all. I did have some nasty heartburn, although it may be completely unrelated to pregnancy as we had chili for dinner and I feel much better today.

I ordered material for some skirts and I'm very excited to get going on that project. I have a pattern for a standard a-line skirt, but am going to modify it and add some stretchy bits to the top. Hopefully I don't screw up the modifications too badly! I think after the first one I'll be fine. I got the fabric from quilthome.com - mostly from the Amy Butler and Joel Dewberry collections. If I have time I'd love to make a blanket as well, but I'll just have to wait and see how that works out. It may end up being one of those things I talk about but never quite get around to actually doing.
